Much like Bruce Mee, my brother is to blame for me liking rock music, as his AC/DC fetish made me put away the ABBA albums and get mum to knit me an AC/DC logo jumper (seriously, it was legendary).  As he drifted away into Madonna and shite like that, I decided to stay with the rock and metal, discovering bands like Anthrax and Metallica before realizing that what I really liked was cheesy stuff. I think the defining moment was seeing the video for Y&T's ‘Summertime Girls’ on the TV show ‘No Limits back in the Eighties.

From then on it was a case of finding all the stuff I liked, which meant buying Kerrang! and seeing what Dave Reynolds and Derek Oliver liked that week. I even went all the way to the Big Smoke to find out what all the "buy or die!" fuss was about, only to find that the legendary Shades was a tiny record shop in a bunker. Still, it had loads of awesome stuff and I got my FM ‘Tough It Out’ CD signed - not the first time I would meet those particular chaps.

In the nineties I ran a rock disco and live band night in Bristol, booking tons of long haired miscreants for as little as possible. One of my favourites were local band Osmium (named after the heaviest metal, natch) who would dress up in codpieces and let off indoor fireworks whilst belting out pseudo Judas Priest metal like ‘Sex Gods From The Planet Metal’. Also of note were Brummie winners of The Friday Rock Show's talent search Voodoo Sioux, who should have been massive (trust me, I'm a journalist).

From that came the opportunity to write for the rather good but embarrassingly named Hard Roxx magazine, which saw me go to The Gods in Wigan (still the furthest North I've ever been) and meet up with Bob Catley and Tony Clarkin when they had a bash with Hard Rain. Good times indeed.

Nowadays I write for Rock United online, which in turn led me towards Fireworks, a magazine I'd long admired and read. If you want reviews with a bit of tongue in cheek and way too much sarcasm than is strictly necessary, then I'm your man, but equally if it's good I'll jolly well say so. Keep on rocking, I know I will.
