I’m really part of the Fireworks / Rocktopia team because of one man. His name: Ronnie James Dio. I first heard him sing (way back in 1976) the song ‘Man On A Silver Mountain’ and the rest - as they say - is history. Rock music became my life long passion because of RJD!

Before this my formative years were spent growing up in many different places all over the world. My Dad was a Sergeant Major in the Army and Mum and I went with him to Army bases in far off places including Canada, France, Germany and many, many more, with fourteen house moves in my first six years! Then my sisters came into the world and we finally settled down in the centre of the universe that is Wigan.

I went to school there and whilst at school developed a love for American hard Rock/AOR music, which later led to starting the fanzine called Boulevard alongside Bruce Mee.

Over the years I have kept myself busy listening to and writing about rock music for various magazines and then also for websites. I was very lucky to be invited to scribble down my thoughts for Fireworks and Rocktopia, thanks once again to Bruce and my good friend Paul Jerome Smith.

As time has moved on I have discovered that my musical tastes have become very varied, with prog in all its forms, metal, rock and any other stuff that might float my boat getting a look in. So writing for Fireworks has let be become Mr Eclectic and I have enjoyed listening to the wide variety of music that the magazine and website covers, although AOR and Melodic Rock are still my abiding passions.

Finally I must tell you that working with and knowing the people who make up the Fireworks and Rocktopia team, Paul Jerome Smith, Gary Marshall, Phil and Sue Ashcroft, James Gaden, Bruce Mee and all of my other friends and colleagues always put me more in mind of a family, rather than just some acquaintances who like the same kind of music. Their friendship, is for me the most important thing about writing for Rocktopia and Fireworks.
