I am from Walsall in The Black Country area of the Midlands, UK. Being a big fan of live music, I love going to loads of gigs! I'm very lucky to live in an area which has quite a few venues of varying sizes, so I do get a good chance to see a lot of bands. A couple of my favourite venues are The Robin in Bilston and Wolverhampton Civic Hall.

I got heavily into music at the age of 16 and was quickly drawn to rock music. Unfortunately, at that time Grunge and Alternative Rock ruled the airwaves. I never really connected to or enjoyed the sound and style of those types of bands, so I was keen to discover older acts like Whitesnake and Def Leppard. This brought me to the underground Melodic Rock scene and bands like Crown of Thorns, Ten, Dante Fox and The Promise. Although I do enjoy Rock and Metal in general, my favourite music is definitely Melodic Rock and AOR. The first CD I ever bought was Tyketto's 'Standing Alone' single, the first gig I went to was Thunder on the 'Behind Closed Doors' tour in 95 at the Aston Villa Leisure Centre in Birmingham. While I could list a hundred bands as my favourites, British melodic rockers VEGA are the band I currently enjoy the most.

My passion for music has also led me to write reviews of gigs and albums in recent years, and I have been contributing to the local website 'Midlands Rock' since 2009. Not only does it allow me to express my passion for music, but it's also something I really enjoy doing and I've met some great people since I started. You may have stumbled across my reviews in the user reviews sections here on Rocktopia ... expect plenty of bad
grammar and even more unneeded apostrophe(')s than you can shake a stick at! :)

I have read every single issue of Fireworks Magazine and it very quickly became my music guide. As the mainstream press tends to totally ignore or even mock the melodic rock and AOR genres, Fireworks became a very important source of information, featuring reviews and interviews that take our favourite genres seriously while keeping the flame of decent music alive. So becoming part of the Rocktopia team is a real honour!
