Sadly, this is to be avoided at all costs, it simply is nowhere near good enough to ask people to spend their hard earned on it.

Following 'Destiny' (2011) and 'Lion's Den' (2013), 'ShowDown' is the third album by this German/Greek collaboration featuring Alex Garoufalidis (guitar), Chris Tsangarides (bass) and Asec Bergmann (drums). With a moniker like King's Call, I immediately expected yet another Thin Lizzy sound-alike act – all twin lead harmonies and riffs flying left, right and centre – however, I'm not sure if I'm more disappointed by the fact that is not the case (sound-wise) or more disappointed that it's just a rather bland and lacklustre album with little to offer.

Opener 'Who Am I' is pretty lifeless and uninspiring – all stop-start and going nowhere. 'Looking In The Mirror' sees the band kick a little more life into proceedings, however, I do honestly despair at the quality control (or lack thereof) when it's blatantly obvious the singer really can't... well... sing. The more familiar Lizzy-isms of 'Get Out' rise briefly above the mundane, sadly to be let down once again in the vocal department. 'High Time' is more of the same before the Prince-like 'Principle Of Love' takes a totally different direction and unfortunately not a better one. The title track has a mighty good riff and is a half decent song, but again the vocals are horrendous.

To be fair, I could continue, but in all honesty, I really couldn't find a single positive thing to say about this album. I am most certainly not into slating bands for the sake of it, but if modern technology has one thing to answer for, it's the very fact that you have a million bands all recording "albums" in bedrooms and basements all over the world, and most of them nowhere near an acceptable standard. At least back in the day of major labels, and to the same extent today with the main labels in Melodic Rock, there is at least the very minimum of quality control enforced to ensure what is actually released is of a decent standard.

I'm not sure how this particular album escaped the net. What I will say is guitarist Garoufalidis does indeed possess some tasty licks and could better employ his talents elsewhere perhaps, but frankly, in this day and age, 'ShowDown' really barely reaches the level of a studio demo as we remember them. Sadly, this is to be avoided at all costs, it simply is nowhere near good enough to ask people to spend their hard earned on it.
