What better way to celebrate summer than with an album that swathes you with soothing rays of sunshine?

What better way to celebrate summer than with an album that swathes you with soothing rays of sunshine whilst sea breezes gently ripple through your hair (that's if you're lucky enough to still have any left, of course).

Iconic Eye was born from the exceptional talents and vision of Greg Dean (guitars), and subsequently he then recruited Dave Wasson (guitars), Gary Slater (bass), Paul 'Emo' Emery (drums), and not one, but two vocalists; the mercurial Lee Small (Phenomena, Shy, Skyscraper) and the not too dissimilar, Tim Dawkes.

The allusion towards Small should give some indication of the quality and direction of 'Hidden In Plain Sight', but don't think for one moment that he alone carries the expectations of the band on his vastly experienced shoulders. Small (five songs) was initially enlisted to carry out session vocals whilst Dawkes (seven songs) was later revealed as the "undiscovered jewel in the crown". Having already won Firebrand's 'Band Of The Year 2014' and cemented their place at this year's Download Festival, IE are now fully operational and raring to unleash their silky musicianship on the AOR fraternity.

Small dominates the opening third of the album; if that was a premeditated ploy to lure the audience in, there really was no need. Opener, 'Now That I've Found Love' is an infectious, insouciant song driven by effervescent keys that will have even your Grandma dancing around like a crazed hobgoblin. 'You Make It' continues the trend with another catchy chorus but with the guitars beginning to show their teeth and provide an edge. 'All She Needed' shows a slightly darker side to Iconic Eye with its throbbing rhythm section and modern guitar tones... but yet another great chorus. 'Don't Stop Me From Leaving' could well be the prodigal offspring from Skyscraper's 'Elevation' opus; it's sultry, Bluesy, yet so melodic.

What an opening quartet... but there's more – enter Dawkes! 'Let It Rain Down' immediately highlights what a fabulous find he is; a slow-tempo, emotion-wringer that will leave you agog! My absolute favourite, 'I Can Feel It', lifts spirits to the roof again and maybe should've opened the album. There is one cover song but what an interpretation!! Python Lee Jackson's 1972 hit 'In A Broken Dream' is nailed down so firmly by Dawkes that Rod Stewart would need the 'World Tug 'O' War' champions to rip it up... superb!! The Funky 'Better Place' and the melancholic 'You're On Your Own' are the home stretch highlights, but I can assure you every song's a praiseworthy inclusion.

We scribes at Fireworks & Rocktopia often get digital copies of forthcoming albums, but if we approve we normally purchase afterwards for ourselves. Now, where's my credit card?!
