There is plenty of content here, but no real surprises once you get into the album.

The debut album from Lost Gravity, due in October 2014, is primarily the vehicle for guitarist, vocalist and song-writer Breno Val. Originally from Brazil, he has been London-based for many years with LG's first line-up appearing way back in 2007. Musically, an energetic, Grunge influenced outfit currently operating as a two-piece in the studio with Val also handling bass duties alongside drummer Giuliano Kolling.

Opening track 'What Goes Around Comes Around' is a highlight with a powerful Audioslave type riff and a strong, youthful sounding vocal from Val as indeed he provides throughout the album. The track basically defines what LG are about, but the downside to that is that the rest of the album, whilst not exactly lacking in quality throws up little else to match and challenge the start.

There is variety in the tracks of course, but 'Changes' is another fundamentally simple riff driven song. 'Alone' is a highlight, being an evocative, emotional ballad with a strong, power riffing chorus. 'Friendly Fire' and 'Walk On' keep up the energy level, bordering on the Punk riffs of Blink 182 or The Offspring with vocals, at times, reminiscent of Dexter Holland. LG do have their subtle side with 'All The Same' having a more Progressive feel with even a touch of Rush in places.

So there is plenty of content here, but no real surprises once you get into the album; enough to hold your interest, but not to really kick you in the balls and keep you coming back. It's a study of competence over real quality. In a strange sort of way, despite a couple of EP releases, the fact that Lost Gravity have been around in various forms for over seven years now and are only just releasing a debut album sort of tells its own story.
