Re-release of the 2009 album with some extra songs.
Essentially this is a re-release of the 2009 album with some extra songs. Quite why it's taken so long to get around to releasing an extended version is anyone's guess. Unless of course the band have decided on another hiatus as they did in 2008.
For the uninitiated, Grinspoon is an Australian hard rock band from New South Wales that has had a reasonable degree of success in their home country over a career that has spanned sixteen years, morphing from essentially a pop orientated rock band into a fully-fledged hard rock outfit. Alternative hard rock is the order of the day with a nod in the direction of classic hard rock on 'Run', power pop on the infectious 'Takes One' or Buckcherry style straight ahead rock on 'Premonitions'.
Therein lies the problem, it all sounds rather familiar a little dated and just a tad amateurish. Phil Jamieson at times seems unable to carry the songs with his weak delivery drowning in the tide of low slung guitar and sleaze edge. Songs such as 'Right Now' and the rather muted 'Lockdown' become devalued to third rate pub rock and there is a distinct feeling that you really could be listening to something a lot better.
