Already in the running for my Best Of 2019 year-end list.

Quite some time has passed since I last heard from Razzmattazz and I'm happy to have not suffered a second longer. Shamefully unaware of the albums released since their 2012 debut 'Rock 'N' Roll Hero', I was more than surprised to learn that 'Hallelujah' now ranks as the band's fourth record in their discography... that's quite prolific indeed by today's standards!

The reverence to Bon Scott-era AC/DC can be made no more profoundly because this Denmark quartet seem more than happy to keep that flame burning brightly. Ever since the debut, I delighted in their equal parts simplistic and catchy brand of Blues-infused Hard Rock. This time around was no different as it only took a quick minute to realize that Razzmattazz had another winner on their hands.

Believe it or not, considerable talent is required to write consistent and engaging Hard Rock music that utilises nothing more than simple chord progressions and song structures. However, Razzmattazz accomplish this goal with ease. Look no further than 'Drive-By Shooter' to find a near-telepathic connection with the Young brothers who took anthemic, three-chord Hard Rock music to dizzying popularity. Combined with its simplistic riff, the gang chorus of 'Backdoor Man' is yet another great example of their uncanny ability to churn out quality and accessible Hard Rock.

Razzmattazz's music never quite reaches the same intensity as some of the AC/DC classics like 'Riff Raff', 'Let There Be Rock' or even 'Rocker', nor do the lyrics attain that same level of hysterical, double entendre that Scott was so well-known for penning. However, the tracks are clearly written with the same mentality and result in mind. The likes of 'Lawbreaker' and 'Drive-By Shooter' perfectly illustrate that point.

I'm more than satisfied that they continue to compromise nothing since forming and 'Hallelujah' will make a rollickingly fun addition to your collection. Although still very early in 2019, 'Hallelujah' is already in the running for my Best Of 2019 year-end list.
